My masthead fitting connection to my roller furling forestay is unique. There is a wire jumper leading from a pin in the masthead fitting with an eye ending that connects to the fork toggle at the top end of the forestay. It seems to work but the jumper has frayed twice over 16 years and needs to be replaced again. I also believe the jumper allows the forestay to twist when operating the furler. I think this explains why the furler action is not smooth. I would like to replace the wire jumper with a rod that cannot twist or bend IF that makes sense and IF I can modify the masthead to attach a rod toggle. See my photos

Joe's right, it's more commonly called a halyard restrainer.
