Have just ordered a CDI furler and 135% from Sailwarehouse--for my recently purchased 26 classic/cb. (94) What have other furler owners done for layout/tracks or? for sail control and using what equipment? Would addtl winches on coaming be appropriate? Length of track if advised? Easy singlehanded control foremost. Appreciate any ideas and all responses.

I have the CDI with a 110% jib

I don't know the deck differences on the "C" but my furler just has three padeyes leading the furling line to a cam cleat on the port side of the cabin top. It works easily. I would think that additional winches on the coaming would be helpful but not necessary for a 135.

re furling sheets

Thanks. I DO have stanchion fairleads which I hope will be right for sail size adjustment from the furling gear. I've never used furling before so I am wondering about just what I do in terms of the sheet lines from the sail: do I need a genoa track on the deck roof? How does one adjust the sheet lead angle going to the winches (which i have on rear of cabin top)? What happens to the sheet angles as you furl in or out? Shouldn't they adjust by a movable block as one does when switching between, say, 100% jib and 135%? I'm also wondering if, for efficient headsail handling by one person, my winches should be relocated to the coamings for a 135% Also, is there a problem with sheet 'route' between a good set for 100% and 135% (interference) because of shroud location? I hope I'm not over-worrying this. Thanks again.

135 on 26S

I had a 135 genoa on my 26S and was able to use the cabin top winches just fine. Before you spend the money for genoa tracks and winches on the coamings I'd just try out that new furler and genoa. Mine sailed just fine with the stock setup winch and padeye on the cabin top. You will need to run your sheets outside the side stays for sure. Steve

Where?

Where could you put a genoa track that will work with/thru the lifeline stanchions? The Mac26 just doesn't seem to be designed to accommodate genoa tracks. Jib tracks are do-able.

Look here

Go to the MacGregor sailor's page and look at the mods. For your questions view Steve Vaczovsky and Keith Sanders mods. It looks to me like a winch and a nearby block is all they're using for Genoa control. One could put the track on the outside just below the top of the coamings with a long bail block. Or mount on top of the coaming. Look these over, I think personally the genoa tracks for the 26 are overkill, the winch isn't however, especially if you are going to singlehand. Steve

thanks for the input

Thanks for all the responses. I will go with the current fairlead setup. I've found Ian Turner who uses a self-designed 'barber hauler' for adjusting sheet angles of his furler. Plus he has great ideas for storm jib. This is a great website; thanks for all your input. Stu
