Hi all, i have a 380 Hunter with furling mast. My furler works really well if i am on the deck using the mast winch. But, while trying to operate in the cockpit the system is a failure. If anyone has had success with such a system please tell me how you solved the issue.
Many thanks,, Bill Small

Halyard tension can be a problem, if you don't have a Dyneema low stretch line. Try peaking up the tension and immediately see if it performs.

I am having the same problem and think could be my sail from 2007 and most likely is baggy
could be one problem plus I plan to grease the roller system and lower the sail to grease the top
grease point.

If you could explain the problem in a bit more detail I might be able to help, but from this, I don't understand the problem.

Thank you for your replies. i have reduced the tension for all lines that could affect the furling but no difference. My furling works perfectly from the mast winch with a short winch handle but does not through the deck plate to the cockpit. The chocks and turns are the issue as i have worked on the problem for 3-4 years and even today went through the system again. Many thanks, Bill

Is there any way, or do you have the desire, to power the RF electrically? Ours has a three way gear box, one for hand @ the mast, one for an electric motor below the boom, and in the mast and the other to the rf foil. Works great w/either power source.
It doesn't take much of a motor if you gear it down a lot.

I had a Hunter 386 and now 46 and no problems as long as the main sail is furled in tight with tension on the outhaul and when furling out tension on the furl in line. Occasionally I use the mast winch if I am not careful furling out the sail initially and it starts to fluff up in the mast. Then I use the mast winch to furl the sail in tight and return to the cockpit to furl out.

Ya, kinda need more info. Is the continuous line from the mast winch to the cockpit gripping the jaws in the mast winch or is it slipping?
That would be the first thing I would consider since the sail furls ok using the winch. Perhaps the lead of the line to the cockpit has too much resistance? There's got to be a reason. Just have to figure it out.
