I have a year 2000 Hunter 340 and I have to remove the furling main from the mast to bring it to the sailmaker for repairs. Can somebody who has done this give me a few tips. The reason I have to remove the sail, is because the strips that attach the outhaul to the clue of disintegrated in the Sun. The sail itself is intact. ajp

Easy to do

I have a 2001 290 with a roller furling main, and it is easy take the main off, as long as it is not windy. You set up may be different but the concept is the same. 1. Unfurl the main all the way. 2. Uncleat the Mainsheet halyard. On my boat it run back to the cockpit. 3. Pull the main down by hand. 4. Unclip the mainsheet halyard from the Head of the sail, and clip or time the mainsheet halyard to something so it doesn't get pulled back up the the top of the mast. 5. Unhook the foot of the main from the roller footing. This is inside the mast so you need to take the lower black cover off the side of the mast to get access. 6. Unclip the Tack end of the Mainsheet. 7. Fold sail and take to sailmaker.
