I have a 2000 Hunter 340 with a furling main, The loop that holds the head of the sail on the mast, and the strips that attach the clew to the outhaul have both come apart. I just had the clew repaired and saild the boat for the first time Sunday when the loop at the head of the sail failed. When I take the sail back to the sailmaker, I guess I should have the loop at the tack of the sail replaced as well. Has anyone else had any problems like this? This sail is relatively new with very little use. Am I doing something wrong, or is there some preventive measure I should talke? ajp

There was a recall on those sail loops

There was a recall on UK sails made in Hong Kong for just that reason, the loops gave way. There would do the repair for free but I had to ship my sail quite a distance and the cost was greater than taking my sail to a local sailmaker and paying for it myself. I have a Hunter 380 and that recall included H340s as well. Les

Recall, what recall?

I never got any notice of a recall, should this be through the Hunter dealer? I would at least light to contact UK sails about it. Do you have any contact info? thanks

I'm not much help to you, Alan, on the recall.

The recall was a couple of years ago I believe, and was headlined on this web site. If I remember correctly, it was for 340 up to, I beiieve, the 450. Your dealer should have something on file or you could call the Hunter hot line. I suspect the UK home office would also know.
