I'm looking to replace the line on my roller furling to something a bit thinner to help keep it from bunching up which stops the "unfurl" sometimes. The question is, with so many line types to choose from is there a prefered way to go?? Low-stretch? No-stretch? More stretch? Your help is appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Check your mfg. instructions.

Bob: I think I read something about this several months ago. There is a technique where you are suppose to pull out the core and trim it down for several feet (cannot remember the length). Then you feed it into the furler and tie the knot. Check it out and see if you find any information.

same here

high strenth will yield smaller diameter. but the last post was correct. remove the core for the part that wraps around the drum, and save the core for the part you handle. you will have to sew the core to the outer jacket to keep the core from creeping. rt

furl it

You want a little heftier line for good hand feel. If it bunches on the drum you're not feeding it correctly. Keep a little tension on the line as the sail unfurls and you should be OK

Layline can help

If you call Layline and give them the brand and type of furler you have, single or continuous line, above or below deck, the length, etc. they can help you select the line and will core it for you. But if it's below deck be sure to know the diameter of the drum and the capacity for line. We tried this once to change from continuous to single-line and even with the cored line did not have enough capacity on the furler. So we went back to continuous line, which was working great anyway, we just had to splice the line.

Cored line

I had the same problem and had the 1/3 of line core removed and the core stitched at the spot soit couldn't creep. Worked great and I still have a nice fat soft line to grip. The cored line will wrap up very flat, taking a lot less room as well as laying nice and flat with no bunching. Try it! onrecess
