I have a 94 Hunter 33.5, the furler is "buried" in the anchor locker, having some problems furling, thinking about adding a furling block fwd of the deck pass thru to improve the angle of the line/furler for easier furling. appreciate any comments.

Adding a fair line eye or block is a good idea. Did that on my boat. Lining up the furling line to the drum will allow better line roll-up and roll-out. If the drum is open adding additional collar widith on the top and bottom of the drum will keep the line on the drum. I have also, added this to my boat's furler drum to great success.

The boat's furlerler is above the deck, but it too kept fouling. This fix has worked well. Installed a fair-line guide (eye) to run the furling line through and guide it to the middle of the drum. Buy a stainless steel reinforced eye as a plastic one only lasted a year. Then the shield surrounding the drum was removed. This allows easy access to the drum and line if the line needs to be re-set on the drum. Collars were made for both the top and bottom of the drum and attached with three small ss screws and lock nuts. Cutting board plastic was used. The top piece has broken as seen in the pictures after about five years. UV rays eat up everything. In this appication the bottom collar has proven more valuable than the top, but I will replace both of these when the weather cools.

As with all furling systems it is important to keep the line taught when rolling the line on the drum. With a below deck drum installing a fair line guide below the deck may be of value to ensure that the line stays in place.
