Furling headsail and tabernacle?

In a few months I will be looking for a clean, early model Catalina 30 to call my own. Problem is, the Santa Cruz Harbor layout - where I eagerly await my slip - requires that I tabernacle my mast. I’d like to be able to have a furling headsail as well. Can the two be used together (No, not at the same time!)? And is there a “better” tabernacle brand or system I should be installing?

NOT Mutually Exclusive ....

Dan .... A tabernacled mast and roller furling are NOT Mutually Exclusive functions .... There are a number of boats in the Upper Harbor with roller furling .... A Catalina 30 that I know of and have sailed on a number of times has a flexible furling headfoil which works quite well. Email Me and I will try to connect You with the owner. Fair Winds. Dave

Check-out the Other Cat30's in Santa Cruz

Another closeby thought is to visit the other Catalina 30's there at Santa Cruz. This past summer, the International Catalina 30 Association held its annual regatta at Santa Cruz. The races made lots of news. You can get a lot of the info on it from The Mainsheet magazine, November 2001 issue. By the way, it only cost $20 for annual Cat 30 association dues, which include the quarterly magazine. See the www.catalinayachts.com site info on the association. Anyway, you have some locals who should be real eager to welcome you into the fleet complete with tabernacle! S/V Dixie
