I'm looking to replace my furler. Is anyone familiar with Plastimo furlers. I would like your opinion.

Why do you want a Plastimo?

Dick: What have you decided on this brand? What boat are you dealing with? When you look at purchasing a roller you should look at your Total Budget first. Then you need to find a furler that is as maintenance free as possible. Some have bearings (need to be replaced or cleaned), open drum design (prevents jamming), ability to install yourself (no rigger needed, saves money), heavy duty (don't need to do this again), single line (continuous is a pain). Be sure that you are sized properly for your rig. If you are marginal, you need to move up to the next size. I recommend that you take a look at the Spin-tec unit that is sold here on the Sailboatowners web site. High quality, easy installation (1-2hrs., do it yourself), no maintenance and moderately priced!

I don't know about Plastimo, but for the money, CDI makes a great furler. You can install it yourself and it never fails. Get the ball bearing kit for an extra $50. You won't regret it.

CDI?

I had CDI's on 3 boats. Your right they make a good product. I want a furler that has twin groves and can use the halyard on the mast. Plastimo uses torlon balls, same as Schaefer and the price is right.
