I bought my first boat, a 2005 Hunter 25 with a Hood "Sea Flex" furler. The boat is still on the trailer inthe driveway and I tried to pin the furler with not much success. I used the mainsheet purchase attached to the jib halyard to try to bend the mast forward with no success. I am an inch or two short. Any suggestions? I wanted ot put the boat in the slip today, but don't want to have to be the main attraction today at the ramp.

the other stays

When stepping the mast on my 23.5 I always had to check the side stays to be sure they were not fowled otherwise the forestay would not reach. The hood site has a manual for your furler that shows a turnbuckle under the drum its possible it may be out of adjustment

Furler Pinnng Problems

Thanks, I'll check. Should it be really hard to pin?

Furling Problems

Hi Barry, You have quite a lot of adjustment on the srew thread, mine has about four inches. Also the T-peg at the join to the mast may not be sitting correctly, if twisted that may cost you an inch or two. Was the furling fitted before of is it new? No, it shouldn't be so hard. Morris Take 5

B&R Rig...

...involves a wee bit of mast bend. If the shrouds were/are properly tensioned when you raised the mast, you will have a b*tch of a time getting that pin in. Loosen the shrouds up if you are working alone or get a buddy to help force the connection (provided, nothing is bound up that should not be bound up). If it is really just "an inch or two" that is to be expected. And I don't blame you for practicing before you get down to the ramp! Good luck.

Tighten the jib halyard first

Barry, I have a 2006 Hunter 25. The key to getting the furler attached is to put enough upward angle on the gin pole by tightening the jib haylard more. That way you don't run out of main sheet pull when tensioning the rig to attach the furler.
