I have a 150, a 135, and a jib. . .150 for the summer, 135 for spring and fall, and the jib for winter. . .or so I'm told. I've only ever left the 150 for fair weather summer days lol. . .

Thing is, the 150 needs a new cover. I was quoted around $600. The 135 cover is showing it's age and will probably need replaced in a season or two (assuming it gets used) and the Jib has no cover.

Is it the "I" dimension at the fore stay? I think it is 41.5'. . .I have seen these covers for smaller boats, and one on a J30. . .looks like a good solution to kill 3 birds with one stone and keep some green in my pocket

has anyone had any first hand experience with these kinds of covers?

Thanks!!

A few weeks ago I made one I obtained as a kit from sailrite.com for our Hunter 38. They also sell them completed. Check their site for prices and a free video on construction. I left my jib on this winter with the sock installed for protection.

I like the idea of them...... Sailrite has plans for one if you want to make your own.

Downside, so I've been told, is they are noisy when it's windy.

The "I" is the maximum headsail HOIST. You want the maximum headsail LUFF. You can use geometry to figure it out or go to www.thesailwarehouse.com

Joe, It shouldn't flog with the laces they put on them. It's a pretty nice design. I will use that on my next cover. I made made mine for my Mac 25. The material I think was 5 yds at $10/yd (Sunbrella). The zipper was a 20' $10 heavy duty brass zipper from surplus store. The zipper has to be made so that it opens on both ends. There is a zipper company that I use here in L A that is really inexpensive and they will make them up the way you want. I don't remember the name but I can look it up if anyone is interested. They have an online site where you can order.

Not ready to try and sew up a jib sock. . .if and when I get a machine, i will start small with some winch covers or something lol. . .

How has it held up for you? And does it perform?

Thanks!

I sold the boat but it is right across the isle from me and still looks good. It doesn't take an industrial machine or rocket science to make one, the most number of layers will be 3. The zipper company I use is http://catameinc.com/faqs.htm.
