Furler & Jib Sheet Question

My O'day 25 has a Furlex 100S furler on it. Having little experience with boats in general and furlers in particular, last fall I took the 11" wire pendant off of the head of the sail to try to raise the jib for better visibility.
After reading the instructions this winter I found that Furlex recommended that if a pendant is needed to get the halyard swivel to the correct height, the pendant should be permanently attached to the head of the sail.

Can I not put the wire pendant at the tack of the sail?

Also wait for others to advise as well, but:

My original 6" too short genoa did have a wire pendant at the head to make up the difference. But for another sail I have and which is 5' too short on the luff, I simply used a high quality yacht braid line, secured with bowlines. I secured the tail ends with UV protected sail makers' thread to ensure that the knot would never "untie". Advantage of using line over wire is that if you don't get the pendant length right the first time, very easy to adjust.

At the tack, I have raised about the bottom swivel attached point with line, but only an inch or two. When cranking fairly hard with the primary winch for close hauling into the wind, I think that raising the tack too much from the bottom swivel will put a lot of stress on the furler's aluminum extrusion (and its bearings through the head stay) which it was not designed for.

Just my considerations.

I do, Just for that same reason. and so the sail doesn't hang up in the life lines

I've got a Furlex 200 on my boat. When I use a furling 150, I attach a pendant of about 1 ft long to the tack to raise the foot and give me better visibility to leeward. Never has a problem with this arrangement.

Sounds good. I like the idea of using a rope pendant so I can adjust as needed. I will give it a try.

Use the cordage to find the proper dimension aloft at the swivel head, as per the manufactures recommendation to prevent halyard twist. Then measure the bottom and go make a wire pendant
