Well, after seeing Joels story, I just have to share. I launched my 240 on Friday the 13th of may. Never, Never launch a boat on the 13th. Here's why. I brought my boat to the ramp at my new marina with out a hitch. My father and I were rigging it, when I realized I had forgoten to replace the rudder down/up haul line. I had some line, the only good luck of the day, so we quickly went to work. While sitting in the parking lot, the harbor master came and asked us to move to another lot, since the ramp was so busy. Dad and I looked about, having seen only one boat recover in the past hour, for all of the traffic. Well, we moved anyway. We steped the mast without a problem and then dad went to the mens room while I moved the boat to the ramp. Now, your thinking this is my first time, but its not, I've had the boat for three years now. As I moved to the ramp, I was at an awkard angle, the marina store is about 50 feet from the ramp, so I pulled forward a bit to get a better angle of attack. Well, I pulled to far forward. I suddenly felt a tug, heard a creak, a crack and a crash. I looked in my side view and saw the worst. My mast hanging by the halyards, in Two pieces! I realized I'd become the guy you read about in the magizines and talk about at the marina, I had hit a power line and knocked my mast off! Well, alls not lost. I had taken out a Boatus Insurance policy the week before, and all is covered. I took the boat 4 hrs away to Crazy Dave Condon. Its in good hands, and I can't wait to have it back. Imagine that!

To get your boat fixed, you took it all the way to Zebulon from Charlotte? There must be a good reason. Once again, I'm glad I live in Zebulon.

Tree trimming ....

You get so used to driving the boat around without worrying about the mast being up that these things happen. I've driven around the marina to get better approaches and heard the confident slice of tree branches being severed by the shrouds before. Not a nice sound and a heck of a mess in the cockpit.

A real good reason

Frank, There is a good reason, Trust. I have another dealer about 5 miles from where I keep my boat. I trust Crazy Dave. Russell s/v summer luvin'

Done the same

I did the same with a 16' Hobie 20 years ago. Now I never stop at a new boat ramp without looking for powerlines. Sure messes up a good day of sailing. Glad no one was hurt. Dean
