I’ve actually seen Swans drown Canada Geese who got to close to their young. Violently aggressive for sure.
They can be.
I’ve seen one attack a fishing boat. I think the swan and the fisherman had some history. But the swan flew directly at the boat, neck extended and making a hideous noise. The fisherman wielded a paddle to ward off the swan. I sailed peacefully by with no problems. I think the swan regarded my sail as a way bigger adversary.
In another case I was chased off a walk around a pond by an aggressive swan. Again it came at me in the attack mode. A friend of mine had a swan attack his car and him by trying to fly in the driver’s window. A car ahead of him hit and killed the swan’s mate.
Don’t mess with them in the mating season. They are big animals and can be mean.
I never had any trouble with geese. Other than being assigned to pick up cigarette butts after an event and found that most the butts I picked up were goose turds. It was an opportunity to see my optometrist.
