I was up with the fishermen and courtesy of the fishermen even though they went very, very slowly past that marina dock. They must have gotten an ear full from people who have had one of those rail stanchion sockets punch right through the side of their boat because a fender slipped.
Ah, there is nothing like starting out before dawn, especially when the rain starts coming down before the sun comes up. Imagine standing in a very cold hard shower in you foul weather gear staring at the middle of the white wall intently on the 1 in 100,000 chance that something will come out of it that sinks your boat or at least disables your engine. That was the first quarter of my day.
But, it was calm and there was almost no swell. You can’t ask for more than that from a place like the Bay of Fundy. The rain eased and I was treated to the most convoluted and spectacular formations of fog I have ever seen.
The rain had stopped but visibility was under a quarter mile when I came up to Digby. Fundy Traffic radio told me that the big ferry’s ETA at the harbor entrance was the same as mine so I headed to the southern shore and waited until she entered. Fundy Traffic asked me to report in when I was moored safely in Digby. I forgot and was a bit late getting back to them which I was embarrassed about. When they had my check in, they asked if I could confirm that the ferry was at the dock when I came in. 300 foot ferry and they didn’t know where it was? I guess I’m not the only one who forgot to check in. I felt better after that.
My cell phone just beeped and it was a text message from Verizon telling me that my roaming data limit has been exceeded. Already? I guess this will be the last post until next month unless I stop somewhere that I can get free WiFi.
