Delivered the boat today 40 miles down the lake for a race Saturday. Lake Erie can kick up pretty quick. Sailed with just the main up with 15-17knot southwest breeze. Boat speed in the the mid 6s to 7s. Wind picked up to the low 20s and shifted to west/northwest. Yikes. Fetch was now 125 miles and the waves piled up especially near shore. Highest we saw was 27 knots and highest boat speed was 11.3 knots sailing at 160 degrees apparent. Biggest problem was getting the sail down to enter Rocky River. Nasty confused 4 footers of very short wave period. The entrance breakwater was awash with some spectacular spray coming off the rocks as we entered the river.
