I've heard little about actual sailing lately. Tell about your adventures.

Today we left about 10am and sailed NW to Langley WA. It was a fine relaxing ride. We turned to Camano Head and the wind picked up. On our return I saw 7.6 knots SOG on GPS. The max speed on the plotter said 8.3. that's up there for a 30 ft cruiser. Then watched a grey whale before we got back into Everett. By then the water was getting quite lumpy. My 2 guests were impressed.

Ken, you're right, it is nice to hear about sailing.
We had a fun sail on Sunday. We only sailed about 4 miles to a small island for lunch and a swim. It was about 33C (91F) so the swim was very welcome. My daughter saw 6.8 knots while she was at the helm and was happy with that.

Is that because you might get covid all alone in the ocean?

No, I imagine it's to keep the sea traffic down around the islands and make it easier for the CG to patrol and prevent illegal entry from countries w/high C-19 infection rates like Venezuela.
We have now been infection free for a couple of weeks on Grenada and never had any on Carriacou. I'll follow the rules gladly with results like that.

We went out racing yesterday evening in a strong northerly. Nine boats in our non-spin division. First start was a general recall, which was good since we were late. Second try was better: Skipper was on time at the line and moving well, right at the committee boat, putting us to windward of everyone. Wind 18-20 knots proceeded to head us, so others to leeward pulled out and tacked across us. We waited for a clear lane and went over near the lay line. Starboard rounding for us, and we had some excitement with a J/111 from the other division coming up to round going the other way. Kept up with or advanced on the other boats on the first reach, playing the sheets in the puffs to good effect. Rounded the gybe mark right behind a bigger boat which we managed to ease past on the second reach, still moving on the leaders, but not enough to catch them. Missed out on 5th place by 46 seconds. Have to work on pointing better - possibly tightening the jumpers so the backstay will make the forestay sag off less.

Here’s an adventure..ordered a new 135 furled Genny last Oct from UK in Sidney BC. Said I really didn’t need it until March. Received it and bent it on and it looked a little strange. I was a little late for a date with the admiral so I furled it and left. Couple days later, was walking down the dock and saw a boat with a short hoist furled sail and no bracket on the mast to prevent halyard wrapping. Walking down the dock, I suddenly realized it was my boat which explained the strange look. Shot some pics and sent to the loft in an email. we figured it was about a meter short on the luff and he knew exactly what happened as it was a measurement error looking at the tape. So now, the Canadian border is closed so I have to take measurements. Went to Homie Depot bought a fiberglass tape and measured several times. My measurement came within < .5“ of his factoring in his mistake. Now...is he going to want the sail back for alterations? Now, do I get a recut sail? Nope! He stated first out that he would make me a new sail which he did and shipped it to me. Bent it on and had a trial sail two days ago. They also made my new Main 3yrs ago. What a difference from the old 40 yr old sail! Did a three hr. tour and the boat moved well. All tell tales flew correctly and all broke at the same time. A rqmt I had was where the car had to be as I don’t adjust it unless I have crew. Worked perfectly. So, hats off to Stuart at UK in Sidney BC. Their sails are locally built in Sidney BC. Hopefully, some wind this wknd..
