Hunter 45DS Wickford Cove, RI
This fall we purchased a new left over 2008 45DS and we're looking for advice and pictures of full enclosures. Any sugestions would be welcome.
We are also considering using envirometally friendly Seahawk Smart Solution bottom paint. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

Not The Same Boat, But,

... a full enclosure will add time to your schedule and great enjoyment. Worth every penny. And, don't forget that it will add to resale. As to bottom paint, you have to think local. Varies a lot. I would never think of non-copper paint in SoCal because I get 4-5 years from copper. When it matches duration, I'll change, or if it doesn't, I'm out of boating if mandates prevail.

Dan and Robin,
Congratulations! Wendy and I are proud owners of Escapade, a 2008 41DS. We have a complete enclosure and just love it. We do have the Hunter dinghy davits. That posed a few challenges for the canvas guy (Steve Lippencott in St Pete Fl, 5 stars!!!) Anyway, here are a few pics. Feel free to ask questions! (added) One thing we did that Steven said was different than most was have him enclose the pulpit seats too. He said normally people have the biminin end at the bow that trails aft from the arch, then have the enclosure drop straight down. We had him add a connecting piece from that bow to the forwardmost crossmember on the davit system, then take the enclosure outside the pulpit seats.

We plan on adding full enclosure to our 37c before our cruise to Chesapeake next year. Will be on boat several months. We've had full enclosure on other cruising boats and is worth the money.

We had a full enclosure added a few years ago and it's been a real plus. We used Stamoid fabric with Tenara thread. Windows are Strataglass 40mil.
As usual, there are areas we'd like to redesign now that it's complete. This is one area you should spend lots of time discussing with your canvas shop.

We have a full enclosure on our 44DS and I agree with all above on the utility and enjoyment. I would offer four suggestions as you think through how it should look:
1. We had the bimini extended as far aft as possible so as to cover the perch seats.
2. Give some thought as to how the profile should look from the aft end of the bimini through the dodger. We have essentially a straight line profile so that when you are at the helm you look through the dodger windows, rather than over top of the dodger.
3. Give some thought as to how you want to handle the traveler controls, which cleat to the arch. I installed cleats on the overhead portion of the arch to eliminate the need for windows port and starboard for the controls.
4. Be sure that the windows needed for access to the sheet winches are sufficiently large and stow properly.
Good luck and I'm sure you will be happy with the outcome.
