Here's an elaborate idea if the owner is really determined. The main sheet goes through a small section of an arch. This makes the hole in the canvas much, much smaller. The arch can also support the canvas. If the sheet is long enough, then the owner would be able to put the boom all the way out for downwind sailing. Yes, you lose use of the traveler but I don't think this can be done with out some compromise. I do realize that the arch is on the cabin top but this was far easier to draw in SketchUp. Can you do any welding?

@Project_Mayhem that arch would need to be very strong and stiff -- would move the effective sheeting anchor point up higher to the place where it contacts the arch opening, and would add friction/wear to all components in contact through the opening.
I think it would be better to relocate the traveler to the (very strong) arch and construct the cockpit enclosure beneath the arch. Again, this would be a major rigging change. It would not be much different (conceptually) from the way catamarans place a traveler on top of the cockpit roof.
In either case - It would effectively change the geometry of the sail control. I would consult with a naval architect before starting the design.

You are absolutely correct. This is the alternative to moving the traveler. Every option in this case has its drawbacks
