Soon to be a proud owner of a new Hunter 260, which will be kept on the trailer in the backyard for the time being until I pick a lake. My previous boat (Hobie 16) used to get pretty filthy from dust, tree excrement, etc, until I started covering it. Would like to avoid the same problem with the new boat. Does anyone know of a source of covers large enough for a 260 with the mast down? Doesn't need to be strong enough to withstand highway speeds, just wind and rain.

I had one custom made.

Out of quite heavy vinyl/plastic. It covers the complete boat (260) from the bow to the stern. The cost down here was about $950.00. Its great though for rain hail or shine she stays clean and dry and perhaps more importantly the chance of any sun damage is reduced to nil.

Aussie source of boat cover

Shipping could be substantial from down under. Probably have to come get it myself. Oh, darn! What type of business did you use? Awning maker? Sailmaker?

Go Cheap Mike

On our H260, I did the following for winter storage. used regular tarps that can be purchased at Costco or Sam's. 1. unhook the lifelines so they hang limp. 2. placed a support board under the mast at the pulpit. This raises the mast up to a more horizontal positon. 3. Starting at the bow, placed the tarp over the mast and let it drap over the boat, continued back to the stern. It took two tarps. Where the tarp hit the lifeline poles, I just cut a hole and the tarp went down over them. Placed some duck tape around the holes to renforce and stop any tearing. 4. Tie the tarp in any fashion that makes you comfortable. Also marked the tarps with a magic marker to orient them next time. Tarps lasted three years before having to replace them. Thought I had a picture of this but have not been able to find it. Jim S/V Java

20x30 blue tarp...

For a winter cover, I use a 20x30 blue tarp from Home Depot for about $30 (?). Drape over the mast in down postion and loosen lifelines and cut tarp at stancion locations, as Jim indicated. I get 3 winters out of a tarp in NH (usually used for 7 mos per year). Use 3/16 polyester line to tie to trailer to keep from blowing off. Some dirt blows under, but keeps the bad stuff off (like tree sap) and shades from sun damage. Fair winds, Tom

Hello Mike

I used an awning fabricator. He was very particular about the design and cut. The result was just perfect.

cheap covers

I use Wal-Mart tarps on my 240. Get at 2 years, sometimes 3. Iuse 1" PVC pipe over the mast. Makes it look like a conestoga wagon after it is done. Usually hang a smaller tarp on the back to coveer up the stern. In the spring, the boat still has to be cleaned and I have found that wood bleach works best> star-brite sells a quart of stuff that contains ozalic acid for $8.00. Oxalic acid is wood bleach. You can a tub of this at most hardware stores, enough to to make about 20-30 gallons for 5-6 bucks.
