I placed an order for a new main and slightly oversized yankee at the Chicago show this past weekend for my 1979 H37C. The main will be loose footed with full battens, using AllSlip slug slides in the original mast internal track. Will the AllSlip slide lugs work well with the original internal track and allow the main to raise and douse freely ? Does anyone have experience with this setup ? Richard

Allslip slugs?
What are they Richard? If they are better than a regular slug then you should have no problem. My new North main has the standard nylon slugs and my main goes up by hand and comes down in an instant. When I bend it on in the Spring I spray each slug with a Teflon lubricant. I never have to mess with the main again in a season.

According to the sail loft, they should be used when you have a luff groove that requires round, internal "slug" slides (like our H37C's). The Allslip slides have a flange that rides up against the outside of the mast track and handles the compression load to eliminate binding issues. Good to know that you have not had any issues. That was my only concern in selecting a full batten main, I did not want to have to spend on an expensive track upgrade. Thanks, Richard

You will love it!
First of all, your slugs should work just fine and second - I am sure you will enjoy that main with full battens. I bought a used one last year from Atlantic Sail Traders for about $350...don't think I will ever find that kind of a deal again! Make sure to invest in some lazy jacks to make dousing it easy. There are many to choose from.

the Nordac 4800 series. I do not remember the options but mine is 8 oz. dacron. I also do not remember the loft discussing other weights or batten alternatives. Mine has four battens, each about four feet in length. The top one fits into a bat car. Definitely not a racing setup.

10 oz Dacron. The new main will be made of 8.52 oz Contender Dacron, loose footed, 4 full battens, 3 reefs, cunningham, triple-stiched, etc. The new yankee will be slightly oversized (I am using your measurements) made of 7.52 oz Contender Dacron, foam luff, white Dacron UV cover, triple-stiched, etc. I will probably have the old staysail converted to a loosse foot design and keep the club. I need to work something out for the outhaul on the club. After doing the rounds a few times with UK, North, Cruising Direct, Quantum, Doyle, etc. at the Chicago show, I elected to purchased the sails from the Chicago Doyle loft. All of the lofts were very competitive and to my surprise not much more expensive than the offshore quotes I had received from Rolly Tasker, Lee, etc.. In the end the personnalized service from the Doyle sales rep made te difference. In my opinion, I would have received a good set of sails from any of them. Although I had the measurements for the boat and old sails, the Doyle sails reps will come and personnaly re-measure the boat, check the rig tuning, deliver the sails and install then with me and go sailing to check fit and performance. What else could one ask for !!
Now if the snow can melt we can get those mesurements !!! We got 8 more inches this week !! *grr Richard
