Hi everyone,

I just took a look on th thread about fuel vents management while in storage... I was wondering if anyone ever experienced a shut-off fuel vent valve, to prevent sea water from getting in the fuel tank while sailing big seas? Any idea about it?

Thanks,

Steph

If your fuel vent does not have a loop of sufficient elevation to preclude seawater entry, it should be refitted. An aft facing vent also helps (as it would for all tank vents).

In 40 years of sailing I have never heard of anyone having problems with sea water flooding through a vent or with winter storage. Me thinks you should just forget about your vent and enjoy sailing your boat. Beneteau has already thought this out.

My fuel tank vent is about 18 inches up the inside of the stern rail stanchion .

All right... Thanks everyone for the infos... My point came after I recently talked to someone who had that kind of problem while crossing the Atlantic from Europe. His sailboat was not of the same type and vents might have been not properly installed... anyway, I was just trying to figure this out as a precaution device. Mine is currently factory installed, inside the aft part of the cockpit with loop and everything.
