Fuel Transfer Switch - replace ?

2004 Hunter 41. This is the switch for transferring fuel from the auxiliary tank to the main tank - don't know if it is "standard" or not. I noticed two things last use - a) the light doesn't go on, which isn't too concerning, but b) I also noticed that the wiring seemed to be rather hot - which causes me concern

- Does anyone have such a setup and know anything about this part and accessing one
- Seems like alot of red wires to mess up - has anyone replaced this and have any advise ? (aside from hiring an electrician)

(PS - so nice to have at least some analog gauges.)

To start with the crimping is not well done. Poor crimps make a bad connection which can over heat. The terminals are also not sealed, so moisture can get in there. There are 2 12ga wires jammed into one connector which isn't a good idea. The connectors look like they have slight yellow tint that might be washed out by the flash, these are for 10 or 12 ga single wires, not 2 12 ga wires.

From the photo it is not really possible to see if it wired correctly. The switch should probably be a double pole, single throw switch.

To sort this out, it will be necessary to determine which wires do what. Which are the power to the switch and which are from the switch to the pumps.

There is probably some guidance on the Blue Sea website. Look for the installation/wiring instructions for a DPST switch.

That is not stock. The fuel transfer is on the 12 v breaker panel. Take a look at the manual for details.

As far as the wiring getting hot, this is owing to poor crimp quality, and high contact resistance.
On the 49, there is a rocket switch that controls fore & aft mascerators
This switch started to faiil because of crummy contact resistance.
To fix this situation, I needed to install fly back rectifiers on both pumps, and use the switch to control 30A 12v relays. These are the little black box relays you see scattered around the boat.
