Can anyone give me info. on changing my old o-day metal fuel tank to a poly tank. The old metal tank has a ground on it.

fuel tank ground

the sending unit for the fuel gauge and the fuel fill should be grounded other then that there is not metal to carry any electric charges.

Just because the tank is not metal it does not mean it won't create a static charge, actually the poly tanks can and do sometimes create a greater static charge than a metal tank. It is imperative that all fueling parts, deck filler, and tank be connected and grounded regardless of the material of the tank. Fuel sloshing around in any tank will under the right conditions create a static charge on the tank that can cause a spark from the discharge when a metal fuel nozzle is touched onto the filler or tank.

Grounding a plastic fuel tank

I recently purchased a 11 gallon poly fuel tank manufactured by "Tempo Products". I had the same question about grounding is and contacted their technical support team for the answer. They suggested that I purchase their "grounding kit" to solve the problem. Instead, I bonded the filler, vent, and tank (via the brass 90 degree vent fixture on the tank) with a green 12ga wire fastened to a metal thru hull.
