Fuel Tank Tale

Having recently purchase a Hunter Vison 32 which has seen little action in it's 8 year life span, I expected some trouble. Fuel tank blues was more than I expected. The Vision is wonderfully laid out for cruising comfort but access to the fuel tank is almost non-existant. Especially mine as a generator occupies the clam shell bin normally used to get to the tank. After sucking water into the line and killing me dead in the water I was left with a major task. To remove the bulkhead in the main cabin is the only way to the tank. No access to any of the sending unit or valves is possible. If you have a simular problem and live between Daytona Beach and Jacksonville you should give Gary Wilkins a call. He "snaked" two tubes into the filler port and was able to recycle the fuel and filter it. We got four large 1 micron filter bags full of crud and about 3/4 of a gallon of water out of the system. His wonderful little machine recycled the fuel at least 25 times and completely removed the scum and water. If you have a tank that has been idle or giving you grief with clogged filters and you can't get at it give Gary a call 904-246-9954. You won't be sorry you did. I think this will be added to a routine schedule of every 5-7 years. The previous owner thought he had taken great care of the system. A cracked O-ring and little use brought the system to it's knees. My advise check the O-ring frequently, use the additives and have the system cleaned every 5-7 years based on your usage.

Fuel contamination

What you see may not be what you get! To follow up on this post, I needed to top off my tank prior to the holiday and since there is not diesel available on on our lake we have to bring it in in jerry cans. I always get my fuel at a truck stop since I figured they have fresher fuel than the local gas station. The last time I filled up I had approximately a 1/4 gallon left over which I left in the plastic jerry can which was newly purchased. Before I filled it up this time I looked inside and I could not believe the amount of contamination inside the can. It was very visible to the eye. I disposed of the old fuel properly and cleaned the can but It still amazes me how filthy the fuel was. I made sure that I changed out my fuel filters immediatly. I am thinking about getting a baja filter since younever know what you are getting, even if you are careful.

Where can you find a Baja filter????

In preparing to sail to the Carribean via the Bahamas, I've heard a Baja filter is almost a necessity unless you want to change filters every week. Anyone know where to get one? Approx. cost?? Thanks
