wow, never thought of moving the big water tank aft. Hmm, must think on that one since it is foamed in place. On contemplatio it is too big to relocate further aft, but i will measure it today and see. Good ideas and thoughts on weight, thanks.

You talked about keeping your boat on an even keel. Placement of your fuel tank might have been done to counter the batteries, galley stove and fridge.
As you have it all apart remember every thing can't be on the center line, and you'll have to balance it all out

Good luck. Patrick

designed

I think the fuel tank was designed to be put where it is by neccessity. The bat boxs is just below companionway steps under starboard quarter berth. The lead shot is forward that by 3-5 feet. Oven was on port side with icebox next to it nothing but bats and lead to starboard.

I just purchased a 27' Coronado sloop with a small yanmar diesel. I can see the fuel tank and it looks like maybe a 20 gal but not sure. I went to add fuel and I no more than started to add the diesel when my partner yelled to stop as it was spewing out the rear of the boat just above the water line from a small metal outlet. What would cause tis? Perhaps I need to open some valve before fueling or could it be that the tank is full and this is an overfill? I really need to fin an owners manual for this vessel. The engine is recently new with 83 hrs on it. Does anyone know why the fuel spewed out? Thanks Keith

Sounds like the tank is full and overflowing through the vent line. It seems like the vent outlet is lower than the filler which isn't a great idea for the reason you have discovered. Most fuel tanks would have the vent above the filler so you can tell when the tank is full. Good luck with your new boat.

I was wondering about a vent outlet myself but also found it weird that they would place it there. The fuel inlet is on the top of the aft starboard rail so there really isn't a higher location for the vent line outlet.
It bothers me to think that this kind of fuel spill will happen each time I fuel the boat.

My Bene has only 40 gals, not much for cruising, but it was designed primarily as a charter boat. When I did the Baja Bash after the Ha-Ha, I carried an extra 40 gallons in a bladder and jerry jugs, which allowed me to motor from Cabo to Turtle Bay. A true cruising boat in the 40 foot range should have about 100 gals IMO.

If you spill everytime you fill, eventually someone will hand you a big fine if the diesel hits the water. That's an ecological no-no :naughty::naughty:
