Hello all….

The sender on my fuel tank has black tar like stuff that serves as the gasket. Over the years of removing and such it needs to be redone and also I am planning on getting a replacement so it gives me a more accurate reading (rather than always full). Does anybody know what stuff to use? Btw the tank is plastic.

Thanks
Greg

You can buy Viton gasket material sheets on Amazon for less than $20. I woudn't depend on some black goo and use a stable material.

The black stuff is most likely Permatex 2 which is the only stuff in the universe which will stick to polyethylene.

If you've removed and replaced it, maybe not. It's a SOB to remove. Only alcohol will dissolve it.

If you're starting from scratch, I would only use Permatex 2 as diesel fuel is a real bugger for leaking.

I found out that five hole pattern is very specific. Before removal take pics and mark the orientation with a Sharpie or other marker. It didn't look to be any different but it leaked until I got it right. By leaked, I mean fumes.
