I have a 2006 Hunter 33. Standard maintanace procedure for any fuel tank would be to regularly check the tank sump and drain any accumulated water and/ particulate matter. Unfortunately, the Hunter 33 tank does not have a tank sump or drain. Anyone have any experience with this situation? What is the best way to maintain the tank and get any accumulated water and/or particulate matter removed? I know that there are fuel polishing services but was looking for something that I could do myself which is less expensive.

If you don't have as problem already, you can simply use the lube oil change vacuum pump most boaters have and use to change their engine oil. Every fuel tank has at least one opening which can be used for access to insert the tube to suck out a sample (into a glass container) from the bottom to inspect. Visual inspection of the tank bottom fluid should normally suffice.

I added a Racor 500 fuel filter and when ever can use a funnel from
west marine that has a filter built into it and have never done anything
with my fuel or fuel tank since 2007.

I installed an inspection port in mine and every year I clean the tank out manually. I highly recommend everyone do this. I have a fuel polishing system but every tank has some "stuff" in the bottom of it, even if you treat your fuel. The last thing I need is for the engine to quit when I need it the most.

Soon

I keep saying soon I will also add a inspection plate soon some day but
When ever I change the Racor 500 it is so clean it is a shame to throw it away
and when I drain the bottom of it it also is so clean.
I should check the fuel tank and keep saying it but it is amazing how well my engine runs and guys are alway saying how quiet and smooth and how well it my engine runs.
but I do agree I should check it before it happens some day,I will really soon soon:doh:soon:snooty:
