The sending unit (gauge) on my 28.5 fuel tank is loose and the screws just turn with out tighting. It seems to only leak when I fill the tank all the way for winter. I haven't realy looked when healing. My question is how to reseal the sending unit, and what product I should use. Should I fill in the screw holes and retap or just caulk the unit in place.

Don't mess around with fuel leaks!!!
Drill out the holes to the next size and re-tap them. Then re-bed the sending unit with poly-sulfide sealant.

The sending unit is metal flanged ; looked like aluminum. The diesel fuel tank appeared to be cross linked high density polyethelene. I've added a Seafit access port for cleaning out the tank on my 28.5 and it has buna gaskets and metal access plate thru bolted, but I stayed away from trying to remove the sending unit. In the past, I've found a two part epoxy called PC7 that adhered to plastic components and to metal. You might try that because the Seafit access port alone cost about $175.00 (to be able to access the underside of the sending unit). A replacement of the original 11.5 gal tank with internal sending unit might be available at about that cost.
