Fuel Tank cleanout

I have a 1979 Yanmar YSM8 diesel engine. It uses VERY little diesel. I run the engine at least 20-40 minutes every week-end, but I burn very little fuel. It's been about 9 months since I had to fill my fuel tank. How long should I go before I clean out my fuel tank and put in new diesel? Jack

tank cleaning

I clean the tank (suck out the bottom sediments with a hand pump) once a year (my late winter activity). I need some fuel in the tank to accomplish this, but the less fuel there is within the tank, the easier it is to see the bottom of the tank. My local waste disposal utility recycles diesel.
