Fuel Tank and Battery Locations

Happy Thanksgiving to my American Vega compadres! And for those that don't celebrate
Thanksgiving, in the US it is more a reason to get together with family and friends, eat
great food and enjoy the company. So, feel free celebrate anyway!

If anyone whose fuel tank or batteries are outside of the bilge has photos of the location
and feels like sending them or posting them, let me know. If there are photos of the
installation, that would be a bonus. I'd be very interested in seeing some of the
alternatives.

My plan is the leave the batteries in the bilge. However, the fuel tank is definitely being
relocated. I thought about putting a smaller tank (5 gallons) aft of the prop shaft
underneath the cockpit sole. However, I can't seem to find a 5 gallon tank that might fit.
We don't use much diesel and I could always carry a couple 5 gallon jerry cans if we take a
longer trip.

Thanks,
Jack

Ps. My wife and I are hosting this year. We're making duck, cornish game hen, stuffed
mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, yams with lime and honey, brussel sprouts with
bacon, and cranberry pear relish.

Hello Jack,

Here are a couple of pics from my archives of my fuel tank in the port side cocpit locker - forward is up in the fuel tank shot. It abuts the bulkhead to the saloon. The second photo is the board that protects the tank from items that I store in that locker - forward is down in this shot(2721). I am guessing that the capacity is about 20 litres. i have never measured it.

Clint,
Thanks for the photos. That's perfect. That's probably where she'll end up, so the photos
certainly help.

Take care,
Jack

As I install the fuel tank, I'd like to eliminate the current electric fuel pump configuration.
If I mount the tank above the primary fuel filter, will the injector pump provide enough
suction to pull the fuel to the primary filter and into the motor? The fitting for the hose to
fuel filter is on top of the tank, so gravity can't just pull the fuel out, can it?

I've read about people using gravity fed fuel systems. What am I missing here?

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack

The electric pump is used due to the 1 metre lift that is needed from the keel tank. With the tank in teh cockpit locker this is not needed.

Cheers
