I AM GETTING READY TO REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING ON MY 2GM-20 (STRIPPED OUT BLEED SCREW). AFTER REPLACEMENT , WHAT IS THE PROPER TECHNIQUE TO BLEED AIR FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM. THANKS WAYNE WAGUESPACK (TUTT)

Really necessary?

When I change the filter in that can I never have to bleed. I simply refill the can with diesel before reinstalling. If you find that you do need(or want) to bleed then work the manual pump lever while opening the bleed screw on the injectors one at a time. You should not have to go back further than that point.

bleeder screw

Don't forget to replace the little plastic washer on the bleeder screw. After you tighten/loosen the screw several times during bleeding, the screw will start to leak. Buy several and keep them on board.

Change both filters at the same time

I just changed both of mine (Pri and sec filters on 93 33.5, 3gm30) and I hadn't replace the Pri in 2 years and what a mess. I had to tear it out.. Black gummy mess. but back to bleeding.. I used the same pump that I use to change oil. I first sucked fuel from tank to Pri filter, once I had fuel there, I removed the bleed screw on the sec filter and sucked to there.. I then loosen the injecter bleed screw and tried to manual pump on the fuel pump. That didn't work so I closed the water intake seacock and tried to start the engine. It started and when all the air was out I closed the injector bleeder screw... Important.. do not use engine to bleed system.. with the water intake seacock OPEN! I did and I got water in the clyinders.. very bad.. also replace all copper washers that you open.. they are one time only and they will LEAK after you open them, Really get extra washers before you start.. That is you your screw is stripped .. done that.. been there! Hope this helps.
