Since I bought my H31/1986 last november, it was getting it's fuel from a handheld 6 Gal tank located in the rear cockpit lockers. I removed and cleand out the original 18 gal PVC this winter, It was dry and clean when I recommisioned it. Finally I redirected the fuelline from the handheld back to the original tank last weekend, filled in 5 gal diesel and run the engine (yanmar 2gm 15hp) for about 5 min at the dock. Everything was fine. I took of and after just 600ft the engine died on me. I grabbed on to the next thing I could get a hand on, that was one of those 7 figure powerboats and the crew was not very excited. Anyway... I went down to the tank again and redirected the fuel line back to the handheld. I never exhausted the air from a diesel, and I never tasted diesel before. I also checked this bronce filter in the cockpit Locker that I believe is a Perko water filter. After 20 min. and empty batteries I got the yan back to work. But my question remains,..... what could it be that cut's of the fuel? Is there any screen or filter in the tank that could be clogged ? And I would appreciate any info regarding proper procedures for bleeding a diesel fuel system. Thanks a lot

Siggi, fun story, surprised you got that far.

Grab another owner and have him show you how to bleed your diesel. It's not hard. Prevents top side damage and saves batteries too.

You didn't mention bleeding

And I agree with Fred that that was your problem. Whenever you disconnect any line in the fuel system, you will have to bleed the air from the line. You only ran far enough to burn the fuel up to the point that the air bubble reached the injectors.

ding dong

Thanks guys, it just rose me a light. Pretty dumb. Didn't think of bleeding after switching fuel lines. Will now go to West Marine and buy me a hand pump. Compared to gas, diesel taste's nice and sweet, but never the less I prefer rum on the rocks. BTW., since I am German and have deficiencies in writing proper english, I like to take the oppertunity and clarify the various versions of spelling "Deisel" that I found in many forums. That inventor was Rudolf DIESEL. He came up with that engine around 1897 somewhere in Germany. Just for the record. This Forum is great Thanks.
