I would think soaking the lines in detergent would help. Maybe wipe down the other areas with liquid laundry detergent... straight up and then let it sit. If that does not do it, hexane would definitely do it but that stuff is very flamable.

Pure Ayre makes a spray chemical that is good at eliminating odors and leaving a mild citrus/lemon smell. (At least that is what my olfactory lobes register.) It is available online at Amazon. (or, I am told, at Walmart or Alice's Restaurant!)

Seriously, we have used that spray several times and in each case it did a wonderful job.

Last time I changed fuel filters, I spilled a small amount of diesel in the engine compartment. Used ZEP citrus degreaser and it really a good job of cleaner and eliminating the odor. May have to reapply a few times an wipe with fresh paper towels each time. I purchased at Home Depot.

The smell will dissipate over time. Your bigger problem will be staining of canvas, your table and possibly gelcoat. Simple green might be worth a try for a supposedly environmentally friendly detergent. Did any of the fuel leak into the water? That is a pretty serious violation of environmental laws and may require notification to the EPA for spill remediation and incident investigation.

Where is your fuel inlet that you could get fuel on a dodger? Just curious.

I woulda had that kid cleaning my boat.

The suggestions given for cleaners are quite good.

The kid was fuelling my jerry can, i gave it to him and instead of fulling it on the dock he put it on the side of the boat. I did not see him until it was to late...lazy kid, worst part is that after the nozzle stopped he gave it an other go spilling more fuel all over the place. There was some fuel in the water, fortunately for the environment the boat contained most of it. I was also very quick at ripping the spill kit apart and jamming some absorbent pad in the water and under the cockpit drain, we got 95 %of it. I cleaned the boat with some environmentally friendly degreaser as i could not find the proposed product here in Canada, hopefully it will work, the line are in bucket full of water and spray nine .

MANUREVA,

It's simple pal,

Forget getting rid of the fuel spill/cleanup/ruined lines & splashed windshield.

Contact the marina & STRONGLY let them know THEY are liable for ANY shoddy fueling & cleanup COSTS as a RESULT of failures from one of THEIR DOCK WORKERS.

The more ADAMANT you are..........the MORE they will listen AFTER ALL, THEY ARE FULLY INSURED FOR MISHAPS FROM PERSONNEL failures!!!

OK, so the kid loses his job..........WHO CARES, even he has to GROW UP at some point.

This is UNACCEPTACLE...........BE STRONG IN YOUR ARGUMENT or, threaten to turn this into your insurance CO & watch how comprising they MAY THEN BECOME. Even if you don't have insurance, they don't know that. And if so, I would suggest at least you secure a liability insurance policy. Be smart......................

Then when resolved, you can chalk this up to EXPERIENCE.

CR

You may want to read the relevant Federal statute and regs. S311 CWA.

In part, it states "the facility from which the discharge occurred" where facility is defined to include any vessel.

The statute isn't intended to be 'fair' but rather easily administered such that the USCG and EPA don't have to determine cause or negligence but rather only 'who had it last'. That's you or more precisely your facility based on your description.

Obviously your underwriter may attempt to surrogate the claim if there is one but that doesn't alter the above.

NB. Just noticed you live in Canada. Canadian statutes are mirrored on US laws but "you're mileage may vary"

This could be splitting hairs, as the boat was not being fueled, the can was. Probably the can, he was " taking home for the lawn mower" : :Liar:
