How far

can a dog run into the woods ans. halfway then he's running out. You are asking a hard one. I have the same setup as you do, my guess is maybe around approx. could be, 12-15-20 gallons mixed depends on engine RPM, engine prop, boat load, boat speed, hull fouling, motorsailing etc. I haven't helped much, sorry John, Baums Rush

Keep a Jerry jug (or 2) handy

You may have to stop and refill the jugs, but that shouldn't pose a problem, should it?

Hourly Burn

I've got a 240 w/8 hp 4 stroke. Burns about 1/2 gallon per hour at near hull speed over the water. Yours will burn more. You're looking at a minimum 30 hours of motoring to get 130 miles up river - I'd plan for 40 hours x .75 gallons = 30 gallons. If the wind is at your back you'll be OK. My two cents. Good luck.

I'll go with about 30 gal

I think the general rule of thumb is about 1 gal per hr per 10 hp. When I am running about 2/3 throttle I get about my best mileage and am moving about 5 kn. If you have about 1 kn current against you, that's 4 kn forward. 130 mi is 113nm. And 113 nm at 4 kn is around 28 hours or 28 gallons. Now if you encounter any head waves, overloaded boat, etc, etc. you will need more. Now 30 gallons of gas will weigh around 169 lbs which you will need to distribute evenly around the boat. Putting quick disconnects on the aux. gas cans will make switching cans easy even in bouncing seas and also eliminate loss of fuel -- which you don't want and is a no-no anyway. If you can trailer to boat partway to your destination, or get some favorable winds, you could minimize your dependence on all of that fuel. Good luck on the trip and bring plenty of "fuel" for the mind and body of the crew.

Thank you all

The trip I am planning is up the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway leaving from Mobile. The channel is very narrow in most places.I will definitely need to use the motor most of the time. I have a friend at the 308 mile marker, to drive there from Mobile is 220 miles. Thanks again. George S. Smith goodstuf61@aol.com Bama2stepper
