What kind of range or mpg can you expect with the Yanmar 27 hp pushing a H356? 30gal tank. Jim

356 range

Good question Jim! I'd guess I'm running 1/2-3/4 gal per hour, pushing a std 3 blade prop in mostly light seas, at 6-7 kts when underway. I've only got about 35 hours on the engine, including 3 5-8 hour runs at full cruise, and a lot of under 5 in the harbor. I've used less than 20 gals, indicated. BTW, it's a 40 gal tank

Depends, But..

.. I used about .8 gal/hour running about 2800-3000 RPM on my V32. I recall that was about 6.0 - 6.5 knots on average. That's with the main up and usually pulling some. Rick D.

Do Some Testing

I have a 34 with a 3GMF but I think you will find that fuel usage is similar. I burn about .75 gallons per hour at 26-2800 RPM. I would suggest you fill the tank, go motor for a specific time period (several hours) at your normal cruise RPM, and then refill the tank. Then the fuel burn is easy to calculate. We motored for about 18 hours over the Labor Day weekend. (Wind on the bow both ways) I have not filled the fuel tank since we got back but my calculations say it will take around 13.5 gallons. Don't fall into the trap of using miles as your gauge, use hours. You may be running 7 knots in flat water and no wind, and 4 knots in rough water against the wind. At a given RPM the engine is going to use about the same amount of fuel per hour, but the distance covered will be significantly different.

Motor specs

The engine manual for the 27HP Yanmar states .95 gals @ 3500 rpm. That's around 6-7 knots. My vessel was delivered from Newburypoprt, Mass to Portland ME(70NM) on apx 13 gals. 4-6ft seas and 20knts wind on the bow all the way.
