Fuel pump filter-necessary?

Recently replaced the original electric fuel pump (broken mounting bracket) on my 2001 310 with an electronic one as recommended on the c34 engine site. Noted that the new fuel pump instructions stated that the included 75 micron filter is to be used. Since the fuel is being filtered by the 30 micron racor filter before the pump, it is unclear to me why this 75 micron is required? Engine is westerbeke m25xpc. Any printable comments from the forum? Can post pictures if required as going to the boat to prepare it for our weekend hurricane. Thanks.

I would change the Racor to a 2 micron and omit the 75 micron if I were you.

There should be a 2 micro secondary filter after the 30 micron racor. That is the setup on mine, factory, same engine. When I put a new lift pump on, I did not use the filter supplied with it.
Cheers

I also omitted the coarse filter as I was relying on my primary filter at 20 micron to ensure the fuel is clean. The coarse pump filter is only to remove any loose nuts and bolts coming down the fuel line and in case the pump is the first thing in the fuel line.

Thank you all for your experience and advice. I will remove the 75 micron filter when I do all my filters prior to lay up this November. The forum is a great repository of advice, experience, practical answers and valuable discussions.

You are correct, it is a universal, based on the kubota 1005 engine series if I recall.

Further to the above it's a Kubota D1005-E series engine. Thank you Ralph for the clarification.

I'm not sure a lift pump is even needed for a 310. Replaced my mechanical lift pump about 3 years ago with the same and discovered my old lift pump was not even functioning due to rust, corrosion & age. So i had a non-functioning lift pump for probably 5+ years. No wonder I was never able to bleed the air out using the lift pump lever. But never really needed to because I think the fuel flows by gravity. At least that was my experience with my Yanmar 2GM20F.
