Catalina 30 Columbia, S.C.
While redoing my fuel system(fuel pump, Raycor filter and new lines) on our 1985 Catalina 30, I decided to remove the screen from the pickup tube in the tank. I unscrewed the 90 degree elbow from the tank, but no tube, metal or rubber came out. Could this fuel pickup tube be permantly fixed to the tank and the fitting screws into it? The fitting was fully threaded as opposed to having a partial thread and a smooth end where the tube could be clamped on. With the fuel system redone it runs better than ever, just concerned that is was not there. I have contacted Catalina( David Gras sp? is no longer there)a couple of weeks ago, but have not received a response to date.

Fuel pickup tube

Most small tanks have the fuel pickup tube welded in to the top of the tank and it is not removable. The fuel line elbow screws into the tank fitting. This is frequently a source of an air leak, and it's important there is a good seal at this joint. Teflon tape can be used, but a special joint compound is the reccommended method. Good sailing Ron B
