Was wondering if there is any difference between the marine and automotive rubber fuel lines (Deisel) other than the price. Thanks Greg

Diesel Fuel Lines

Fuel lines for Diesel are now a larger diameter presumably to be more fire resistant per USCG requirements.

Marine grade is USCG approved.

Automotive grade is not usually compliant with USCG regulations for safety .... and would be in a sense a violation of your agreement to your insurance underwriter who assumes that USCG spec. materials are being used. I would think that if you had a casualty/insurance loss due to substandard hose, your insurance coverage would be at severe risk. "Marine grade" fuel hose usually has more reinforcement and integral 'armoring', and is only made (certified) from specific approved polymers, etc.

UL 1114 or SAE J1527

Flexible fuel hose shall comply with the requirements of UL 1114 Marine (USCG Type A) Flexible Fuel Line Hose, or SAE J1527 Marine Fuel Hoses - and shall be so marked every 12".

Woah No Need to Go to That Extreme

Most of the larger auto parts houses will carry the hose. Check with a few before you spend a buck more per foot. Of coures if is only a foot and your there anyway it may seem worth it.

Big Difference

The hose at W/M for fuel and USCG stamped is significantly more reinforced than the automotive type or even the stuff that is on my boat currently. Thanks all, safety over savings Greg

NAPA

I bought mine at NAPA way, way cheaper than WM had it. It was the same CG aproved hose. We have no WM in town so it was an obvious choice for me, even more so when I was in Galveston and saw what WM gets for it.

Fuel hose marked SAE J1527 means...

Fuel hose marked SAE J1527 means it is built to withstand 2 and 1/2 minutes of an open flame before it fails. Be sure to buy INBOARD engine hose if your engine operates from inside your boat. It is usually black in color and has a greater wall thickness than the grey stuff used for outboards. Be sure to secure all fuel hoses with zip ties and when passing any hoses or wires over the engine secure with METAL cushion clamps.
