Fuel Lift Pump

Hi there.Today I had alot of trouble starting my Westerbeke 20b-2 engine in myC-270. Once I got it going, the motor idles, but when the throttle isincreased, the motor dies. Appears to be some sort of fuel starvationproblem. I changed the small filter today (waiting for shipment onthe water separator filter), to no avail. How does one check if thefuel lift pump actually works? When I changed the smaller engine filter, a steady (stinky) stream of fuel ran out. So I think the lift pump might be ok. Not sure, tho. Any ideas would be appreciated!!!Thanks

Doug, Make sure your electric fule pump is woking, Turn on yourkey at the engine contol pannel and listen for the pump. It shoud be a buzz or wherr. Many models also have an audible clicking noise. You could be pulling enough fuel through via the intake vacume to idel but not actually run at speed. That said, Your water separter ( likely Racar ) is the control. If it wont let it pass, you are done.

Fuel Pump

The Cat 30's with the Universal M25XP have a 12v Facet pump. NAPA now carry a replacement Facet pump that is cheap and reliable. Some motors have a grounding switch on the oil pressure sensor to stop the pump if there is no oil pressure.

See: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php?topic=2515.0The old pumps have filters on the bottom of the pumps. If the primary filter is not piped before the pump, they get clogged. Clean the pump filter and re-plumb the fuel line.You know the old style works when there's a clicking sound. If it's a fast click there's air in the fuel lines. A slower rhythmic click is fine.
