I tested the proximity switch method of fuel level measuring. System worked great, no holes, no hassle and a reasonable price. It also works on the holding tank.
I had looked at a gauge solution but it only worked with glass or rubber tanks. You could add a PVC arrangement from top to bottom of a metal tank and then attach the gauge to the PVC. But that assumed you had the clearances.
Rip:The proximity switch is basically a couple of strips of aluminum tape that is glued onto the tank. One side sends out a signal and the other receives it. Based on the amount of "fluid" in the tank it sends back a signal indicating the level. We call this stuff "electromagic" in the computer industry.
Mine was a commercial unit hooked up to a small battery, this you slide down the outside of the tank and when it reaches the level of the fluid inside the switch turns on. But it does only work with non-metalic tanks. The switch was about $100.
Worked great on both the holding tank (fiberglass) and fuel tank (plastic) on my H31. Temporary solution until I can get time and energy to install the Accugauge.
