I have a 1980 Universal 5411. The last time we were coming in after motoring about an hour the motor was loosing power with black smoke. I thought that it was the fuel filter, but after replacing it there was no change. I was reading the maintenance manual and the symptoms sound like it could be the fuel injectors. I removed the injectors and they are going to get tested in the morning. I have found that this is a Kubota Z-500 motor. Worst case scenario I need to buy new injectors for this, does any body know the part number or a place online where I can get them? Thanks Bob

Rebuild them

Take them to a truck engine place, or even a tractor dealer, and if they can't do it they will know who can. Baltimore Diesel, if you're in this area.

Every large metro area to minor cities have specialty "injector shops' that can

bench test, rebuild and recalibrate such injectors. Just look in the "yellow pages" for "injector service", etc. Even with 'new' injectors you should 'bench test' to be sure of the correctness.

The cheapest place to get them is a local

Kubota dealer. Since you know the engine # you have it made. They will know the right injector for that engine, you don't need to know the part #, but you can find it at www.marinedieseldirect.com. Go to Kubota's website and do a search on local dealerships if you need new ones because the old ones can be repaired.

Update

The injectors were tested this morning and one had a bad spray pattern and both had about 1600 lbs pressure when they need to be around 1,950 lbs. They are going to be sent out on Monday to a shop that will give me an estimate on how mush it will cost to rebuild them. I will let everybody what he says. Thanks Bob
