Fuel hose and ethanol

It's in case you haven't checked your fuel lines. This is a little incentive. This is off my mower not my boat. I poured gas into its tank and noticed immediately that it was dripping from the hose.

This little length was downstream of the in line filter before the carb.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Yep....That crap tore up the lines on my dinghy outboard. I need to have them replaced now because of this.

It is going to get harder and harder to avoid that crap too. Places that sell regular will start charging more and more as well. On top of that I have heard that the fuel additives that you add to ethanol to try to combat the issues it causes really don't work that well.

Does anyone else have good suggestions to combat this issue?

The only solution....

....would be to write everyone you can think of in D.C. and insist that they lift the ethanol mandate from motor fuels.

It was put in place under the false pretense that it would reduce emissions from our cars, but the fact that you will actually burn MORE fuel due to a decrease in fuel economy pretty much offsets any benefits in emission reduction. I know my car get 10-15% worse fuel economy burning the 10% ethanol fuel, so I'm pretty much convinced. Not to mention the harm it does to pretty much every type of engine known to man, which has been widely documented.

Did you happen to notice that the price of corn went sky high at about the same time that your government mandated ethanol content in gasoline? It became more profitable to grow corn for fuel production than for food. It should also be noted that when refiners were mandated to add this garbage to their finished products, they had to provide (or build) infrastructure to make it possible (tanks, pumps, valves, instrumentation, etc.) Guess who ultimately pays for all of that equipment? That's right, you do. Every time you visit the pump.

Thank the lobbyists, they essentially bought the ethanol mandate at your expense.

Thanks for letting me rant, but at least if you didn't know - now you do.

I read a news release from a local Exxon-Mobil refinery, that they were cutting production on regular nonethanol gas to comply with federal government mandates that limit the amount of nonethanol gas that can be produced. Bottom line is that it will be more difficult to find and of course, the cost will be higher.

First, I've switched to the grey hose all through my fuel system- it's resistant to ethanol.

Second, I religiously use SeaFoam AND StaBil in my tanks. I also have an inline filter added between tank and engine, and in some 10,000 miles have had two experiences of engine problems, both caused by small amounts of water after the engine had been idle for a good while, both cured by washing out the float bow with carb cleaner

I run an 8 hp, 4 stroke Yamaha by the way

Both products are 90% ethanol......................................... your right the problem is not ethanol the problem is letting moisture into your fuel system.
