Fuel Guage

I have a Hunter 290, and the fuel guage reads full when the ignition switch is on. The guage goes to Empty when the switch is off. Is this electrical or mechanical? How can I tell the difference and what is the remedy?

I believe it is normal for the guage to show empty with the power off (like your car). Have you tried it with a full tank and then with a half empty tank to see what happens?
My H28 has a mechanical guage on top of the tank -- a float moves the needle.

I'd say mechanical; with the key on, the system is energized and the guage is reading what the sending unit tells it. The problem is seldom electrical. You probably have a stuck sending unit in the tank. Find the sending unit port in the top of tank, make sure its connections are clean and tight, same with the connections on the back of the gauge. Take the sender out and move it's sensor arm up and down. The gauge should go from E to F and vice-versa. If the gauge fails to move, the sender is corroded, replace it.
