Just filled fuel tank with 10gals diesel and fuel gauge went from 1/2 to Empty so now I have no idea how much fuel I actually have. Any ideas?

Not trying to be funny but you have at least 10 gals. If you know how much fuel you burn per hour, you can figure out how much running time you'll get with the 10 Gals + whatever was already in the tank. If you want to be precise about it, I'd suggest filling up, then marking the hours when you run. After 10 or 20 hours, fill up again and calculate how much fuel you have put in the tank for those 10 or 20 hours and you will have your average fuel burn rate per hour. That way you can safely use the boat until you have figured what the problem with the gauge is.
No fuel gauge at all.
My 272 LE has a small Universal 12. I've not got a fuel gage at all but to keep up with consumption and available fuel I've got a thin stainless flexible measure stick. It's got five marks on it, each measuring 1.6 gallons. Anyway, I just have to stick it down the supply neck to have an idea of what's in the tank. Good luck.
Boon, how did you determine where to mark the stick? Although it appears that time and consumption is the way to go. As we are ending the season will begin that exercise next year! Thanks all for you for your advice. Appreciated!
Simple enough, it was manufactured with markings. I'll try to read the makers name tomorrow so you can Google it. It works great, is easy and simple.
Hey Navis, sorry about the delay. Work has interfered with sailing and I went to the boat and had to leave quickly. I'll get the name then. The markings are evenly spaced except at the top where one holds it. It's longer there. I assume that's because of the neck of the tank.
