Fuel gauge hard left

Fuel gauge used to work and is now hard left.

There is fuel in the tank. Probably half full.

Voltage to indicator is 13 v with 5.5 v across sender

Removing leads from sender and even brushing them together has no impact at all on indication.

I will check resistance of sender next time I am on the boat.

Any thoughts on what I should do next, buy new sender, new gauge or the whole lot ?

90% of the time it's the sender.

Thanks for the responses. I checked the resistance of the sender and it was 160 ohms and power was getting to the gauge. Bought a new VDO gauge and it now all works fine.

Only problem is that the hour meter has a strong reputation for folding. I installed an analog hour meter by the panel and use that for measuring fuel use
