I am ready to replace the fuel filters, and right away I ran into a problem. My 1990 H30 has a Racor model 110 fuel/water filter, and the catalogs say this model is for gasoline. I haven't done this yet the filter specifications for gas are quite different from diesel, and I was wondering if this old of a unit was something different. Also Ive never attempted to drain the water as I hear your supposed to do. I have two brass bolts on the bottom of the container and was wondering how to drain any water, which one how much do you loosen the bolts? The engine filter seems staight foward. Thanks Jim Bessinger

The 110 is for both diesel and gas

You also have a Yanmar diesel filter on the engine.

racor 110

the racor 110 is used for both-the elements are readily available-west marine, boat us, etc carry them. have some clean diesel in a jar handy, since you should fill the filter case with new fuel to minimize bleeding when you put it back together

Racor

Regarding the two brass bolts on the bottom of your Racor 110, the center bolt isn't really a bolt but part of the filter case. You can put a wrench on this to help open the filter. The drain plug is the one that isn't in the center of the filter.

Replaced My Racor-110

If your Racor-110 is mounted in the bilge as it was on my H-30T (1991) it is an inconvenient location. I replaced mine with a Racor-230R2 filter with the advantage of a see-thru bowl. Placed it in the engine compartment where it is easily seen and worked on. If you are interested in doing something similar let me know and I will send you pictures and description of my installation.

racor

I have a racor 110 filter on my 2001-290 in the engine compartment and it came that way from hunter its really not old ,that are cheap easy to change, just refill the canister with fuel and you don't have to bleed the system with either filter ,I was thinking of changeing to the see thru ones but everything runs fine right now I guess its still new ,maybe in a few years when it gets older or I have problems. nick

Racor & Yanmar Fuel Filters

For the Yanmar 2GM20(F) diesel engine: The Racor filter element, for the 110 Racor filter assembly, is Racor R11T. I just obtained one from the Yanmar dealer (Mack Boring & Parts Co.) for $13.50 (+ Tax). I beleive that the element should be replaced each fall as part of the winterizing process. The Yanmar (Primary) fuel filter element (the on-engine filter assy.) is Yanmar #104500-55710 and cost $5.12. I replace that every fall also. The engine oil filter (while we're at it) is Yanmar #119660-35150-12 and cost $7.68. That along with the engine oil should be replaced every fall also.

See Through Bowls

Having a see through bowl on your fuel filter is pretty convenient. But, if it is in the engine compartment and there is (God forbid) a fire, there is a good chance of the bowl melting or breaking, the fuel pouring onto the hot engine, and you being sool. Also, the filter being generally below the fuel tank, after the bowl breaks the fuel will continue to run from the tank - to the broken filter - to the fire. Not a good thing to have happen. Even though diesel fuel is not as flammable as gas it is still flammable. That is one reason the CG won't allow you to have anything but a metal bowl in the engine compartment on a "for hire" vessel. Just a thought. Les s/v Mutual Fun

Very good info!

Quite an interesting thought on the fuel filter and it's postion relative to the fuel tank etc. Must admit I had not thought of the possibility of a broken glass and fuel leaking all over the engine compartment! I had contemplated the glass bowl also but don't like the thought of a fire and broken glass etc. Thanks for the insight-Pete

Oil filter #?

Have been using #124450-35100. Is the number you listed a recent replacement. It is shorter than the model I have used for 9 years. Local Yanmar dealer suggested I use # 124450-35110 as a replacement for #124450-35100. Wondering if the one you listed is easier to get a wrench on or not. Joan
