Fuel filter hose disconnected

I have a new Hunter 36. After docking yesterday I discovered that a heavy fuel smell in the cabin was caused by the fuel filter hose which had disonnected with the clamps still on the hose. Several inches of fuel spilled into the catch basin underneath the engine. (I gather that the hose disconnected at or about the time I docked because I had used the engine without incident or indication of a problem earlier in the day.) I had no indication beforehand that the hose was loose. Have any of you had this problem and, if so, how have you handled it? Thanks.

commissioning a new boat

Sounds like someone failed to check whether all hoses were properly secured. You might find the time well spent to go over the boat and particularly all hoses and electrical connections to see if they made that mistake twice, or more. You could insist the yard which commissioned the boat in the first place do it but then again, it would appear they didn't do a very good job the first time...

Spring Check

Clamps are one of the things I check as part of my spring commissioning. I systematically check all the clamps for tightness and corrosion. One spring, I found BOTH clamps on the input to my muffler had 1/2 of the strap part broken!
