So I don’t really like that my fuel filter or my sea strainer are behind the wall in the aft port cabin I’d rather they were out in the open maybe under the stairs or even where the generator normally goes so I can locate them and inspect them quickly, has anyone made any alterations like this thoughts comments?

I moved my Fuel Filter system from the engine compartment to under my stairs. It is a vast improvement on my boat.

Did you just mount it against the wall and how did you run the pipes?
Any pictures

I found a picture.
I had to remove my engine. This meant I had to cut a hole in the bulkhead. The board repair meant I had a clean space.
Here is the picture. The filter system is sitting be hind the stairs.

here is an image of it before the engine rebuild, packed into engine compartment.

A big improvement.

My primary fuel filter was originally located in the engine compartment behind the engine. I moved it forward of the engine where it’s easier to reach. I’m all for making routine maintenance as convenient as possible. Though ”out in the open”, if you mean that literally, would be an aesthetic issue for the Architectural Design Director in me.

We rerouted our raw water hose for the generator when we removed it for maintenance. We moved the strainer to the main bilge area where all of the through hulls are located and we sent the vented loop up inside the fridge cavity Under the galley counter. We eliminated about 20 feet of hose In the process. I think all of the extra hose placed a burden on the generator raw water pump and led to disintegration of the impeller. We're happy with the change. We placed a prompt on the generator remote panel to remind us to open the through hull before starting the generator. We keep it closed when the genset is not in use.

No offense... but that whole setup is a disaster waiting to happen. Are these before or after photos?

The fuel hoses aren't supported, over time, this can cause the crimped ends to fail and a fuel spill or engine stoppage due to air in the system.

The wiring needs to be re-organized, and properly supported.

I'm sure it all "works" now ... but will it in 2, 5, 10 years? Will the next owner be able to figure out what goes where?

Not trying to be mean, but I've seen way too many boats where we have to essentially tear out all the "improvements" that the previous owner did with complete disregard to marine standards or best practices.

Anyone can have a few days free access to ABYC standards. It's worth paying for access if you're doing any serious work on a boat. If you don't have to have insurance, no biggee. But when 5 years rolls around and your insurance co asks for a survey, you'll thank yourself that you took the time to learn and do it right!

You are correct. It was a mess. One mess cleaned up at a time.
Still working on it.
