Hi-

I've become a partner in an '85 Hunter 31 with a Yanmar 2gm20F, which I believe is a 16hp. Can anyone tell me about how many hours we can expect to get per gallon? Thanks!

I have this same engine in a H28.5, and it uses about .2 gals/hr at 2200 rpm in smooth conditions, .3 gals/hr with wind/ waves on the nose. It is a very efficient engine, but a lot depends on condition of the boat's bottom, the type of prop you have, rpms, and wind and wave conditions. Your boat displaces about 1,000 lbs more than mine. That said, I think you can expect to use about .3 - .4 gals/per hour in relatively smooth conditions. May be safe to plan on .5 g/hr.

I have the same motor on a Hunter 310. I get a little better than .5 gal/hour at about 2500 rpm.

I have the same engine in a Hunter 32 and I use .5gph for planing purposes but have always gotten better. I cruise at 2800 rpm.

I would suggest that you figure .6 to .75 gph for planning purposes. I think your tank is about 18 gal but you probably can only use about 15-16 gal. It is recommended that you run the engine at 2500-2900 for maximum engine life.
